Healthy Living
With the mission to provide quality mental health counseling from a Christian perspective, Still Waters Counseling and Education Center strives to “bring hope, facilitate healing, strengthen and restore relationships, and improve quality of life.” Kaylee Newton, MSW, LICSW shares that the Alabama based team is ready to provide a safe place for clients of any age, including tweens and teenagers.
Benefits of Counseling for Tweens & Teenagers. “I believe people have always struggled with depression, anxiety, and different mental health disorders. But we are in the day of social media, and everything is in your face,” Newton says, adding, “There are so many influences children are plagued with today.” Counseling can greatly help tweens and teenagers struggling with anxiety, depression, stress from school, comparison, bullying, trauma, anger issues, self-esteem issues, social anxiety, and more. Newton shares that she believes the pandemic impacted the younger generation by making life unpredictable. “There is this anxiety that so many young people experience.” What can you expect if you take your child to Still Waters Counseling? Parents can expect their children to find a safe place where they feel heard and seen. “We do value what the parent thinks is the goal but ultimately our main focus will be the child and really hearing their voice,” Newton explains. “We don’t do that without listening to the parent’s concerns, as well.” During the initial therapy session, counselor speaks with both the parent and child individually. Newton adds this is a great opportunity for the parent and child to ask all their questions about what to expect in their future therapy sessions.
Ready for Change. If you’d like to see a change in your life, therapy may be a good option for you. “There is study after study that shows therapy works,” Newton says. “We all have brokenness in our life. When I think of therapy work, I think of restorative work. People tell us all the time that they are living life more in alignment with how they want to live because of the result of therapy.” Still Waters Counseling offers therapy in-person in Mtn. Brook and Madison, Alabama and therapy on-line anywhere in Alabama. They accept most insurances in addition to offering private pay rates based on annual household income. To anyone struggling with their mental health Newton says: “Struggling with your mental health does not equal sin. However, it is a result of living in a world that has been impacted by sin.” Areas that Still Waters’ counselors treat include anxiety, depression, divorce issues, adjustment issues, self-harm and cutting, stress management, suicidality, bipolar disorder, domestic violence, grief and loss, panic attacks and disorders, and more.
