Deer Season Check List
October 15 is opening day for bow hunting which means it’s time for a mad dash to get fields finished, stands placed and guns sighted in. Don’t forget to also do some vehicle maintenance like engaging your four wheel drive and letting your winch cable out and rolling it back up to ensure that everything is functioning as it should.
Before heading out, make a hunting checklist to ensure that your first trip to the woods is a safe and successful one.
License. First and foremost make sure that you have a valid and current Alabama hunting license. If you are a license exempt hunter, meaning that you are over the age of 65 or under 16 years of age, you will still need to make sure that you have your Hunter Exempt License Privilege (HELP) number, which can be obtained free of charge anywhere Alabama hunting licenses are sold. Anytime you are hunting, you should have your hunting license readily available.
Essentials. You will want to make sure that you have all of your essentials such as ammunition, safety gear, form of communication, range finder/binoculars, calls, etc. Have ample clothing, layering to insure that you remain comfortable in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
Extras. If you hunt out of a stand, shooting house or blind you may want to have something to keep yourself occupied during the slow stretches. Those few hours in the morning and afternoon are a perfect time to reflect and to improve your personal relationship with God. It is uninterrupted time that you can use to read or re-read the Bible, do a daily devotional or just soak in the beauty that is before you.
As always, if there is anything you need to get ready for the season, remember that Mark’s Outdoors is your complete hunting and fishing headquarters. Enjoy!
