Share the Light that Lives in You

Every Family Deserves Hope

Growing up the son of a preacher man came with challenges. There never seemed to be a safe space for me to get away with doing anything wrong. There were always an extra set of eyes watching my every move, or so I thought. Another conflict came over the word pride. Should I be proud? Wait, I thought being proud was wrong?

One thing that was instilled in me was a sense of pride in where I came from. I am an American. I believe in the beauty of my country. However, in recent days my love for country has caused me to further define my love. There are actions and words that I have witnessed that I do not love. I am not a political person but rather a man who generally looks for the good in all. It’s the way I was raised.

As I have watched some of the events and gatherings of the last several months, I have asked myself the question, what is my response? As I look to the source of Truth, God’s Word reminds me that I am to be light in the midst of darkness. Matthew 5:14-16 says, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Just because I disagree with you does not mean that I have to dislike you. The fact that we are different does not make us enemies. As a believer my instructions are clear. My responsibility is to share the light that lives in me.

Back to the idea of pride, what can I be proud of? As followers of Christ, we can be proud when we live our lives through the lens of being about our Father’s business and His light shines in each of our words and deeds.
