“Girlology” Course

Children’s of Alabama will be presenting Girlology: REPROduction for fifth- and sixth-grade girls and their parents on Sunday, March 4, at Canterbury United Methodist Church.

Girlology & Guyology is a growing national program started by two physicians and moms in Charleston, S.C. to help parents and their children have age-appropriate, medically accurate and cringe-free conversations about puberty and emerging sexuality through a series of programs that targets youth ages 8-16. Girlology REPROduction is designed to provide girls with an accurate, yet age-appropriate understanding that will protect them from the myths and set the stage for future conversations that are vital to healthy development. This program will address reproduction and topics include menstruation and ovulation, puberty in boys, conception, fetal development, birth, reproduction and more.

The cost to attend is $50 per parent-child pair and $75 per parent and two children. All girls will receive a goody bag that includes Girlology’s book for this age group. Pre-registration is required online at www.girlology.com/programs.

“It’s exciting to be part of this program and see the transition over two hours as the girls become more aware and learn about what’s normal for them at this time. The parents are able to gain from the event with their daughters and pick up helpful tips that guide them in future conversations,” said Dr. Stephenie Wallace, Adolescent Medicine Specialist and Girlologist at Children’s.
