God’s Benefit Package
When seeking employment and determining whether to accept a job offer, there are normally two key deciding factors, salary and the benefit package. The benefit package usually includes things like vacation, sick leave, health insurance, retirement and possibly a disability plan and life insurance. In considering this, I was reminded that God provides us with a very good benefit package. Psalm 103:2 says, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget none of His benefits.” Let’s consider some of the benefits that God supplies.
- Forgiveness of sins. I John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
- Life in Christ. We have a new life (I Corinthians 5:17); a full, complete life (John 10:10); eternal life (I John 5:13); and a victorious life (Philippians 4:13; Romans 8:37).
- The Holy Spirit. I Corinthians 3:16 says, “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?”
- A fourth item in God’s benefit package is that of being adopted into His family. Romans 8:15 says, “. . . but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, Abba, Father.”
God also supplies other blessings of health, family, friends, home, income, resources and much more! Like the hymn says, “Count your many blessings!” In doing so, you will bless the Lord and not forget His benefits!
