Are We There Yet?
The Montevallo Arts Council will celebrate spring with the annual Montevallo Arts Fest in Orr Park on Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This family-friendly arts festival will have something for everyone to enjoy. Artists will fill Orr Park, located on the tree-lined banks of Shoal Creek, to display and sell their work, which ranges from fine arts to artisan works and fine crafts. In addition to works for sale, there will be artists on hand to demonstrate their craft throughout the day. Children will have the opportunity to make a piece of art at the children’s art section. Festival food will be available from several food truck favorites. And live music will spice things up on the outdoor stage.
Arts Fest is part of the Forte Festival of Creativity, a cross-college and community convening of creative minds. The University of Montevallo will be presenting film screenings, gallery talks, poetry and book readings, the unloading of the anagama kiln, and the musical Urinetown.
Participating artist Rachel Daniel says, “Montevallo Arts Fest rolls around each year about the time that the weather has turned oh-so-perfect. As an artist, I love coming back to this show because it has the same outdoorsy vibe of upscale art festivals like Moss Rock and Magic City Art Connection, but in an atmosphere that is uniquely Montevallo. Orr Park is the perfect place to showcase our local talent and participating in this festival feels like an extended afternoon in the park, but with art!”
