Is Thanksgiving still legal in our country? I know this may seem like a ridiculous question, but I assure you it’s not. I remember as young child, being told daily by my parents how blessed we were as a family and how we needed to be sure to thank God every day for our blessings. I don’t hear that a lot today. It seems that blessings have been exchanged for complaints and entitlements. It seems that the Nation that founded the day of Thanksgiving and once praised God for its blessings, now demands blessings from our government.
When the pilgrims landed in this great country of ours they saw a lot of opportunity and you better believe they thanked God for their many blessings! I know I am just a local insurance agent, but I believe we can turn this boat around one family at a time this Thanksgiving season. This month take a moment and call a local charity that provides meals on Thanksgiving and get them to tell you how much money or what actual food is needed to feed 10, 25, 50 or even 100 people for Thanksgiving. Take that information and call a family meeting and decide as a family which number of meals is going to be your project this Thanksgiving. Whatever you decide, your children will see the light in your eye. They will get to experience what being a blessing to others is and they will also know that they are blessed. On Thanksgiving Day, when you have your family prayer before the meal, make sure and ask God’s special blessing on the meals that are being eaten today that aren’t in your midst and declare that Thanksgiving is still legal in our great country and in your home.
