OLS Teachers Provide Service Outside the Classroom
Homewood, AL-(March 6, 2017)-The teachers at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School (OLS) recently dedicated a day of service to their community. Dividing into groups, the educators visited specific organizations and devoted their time and knowledge to helping others outside their classrooms.
The nonprofit organizations they visited during their service day included Better Basics, which presents enrichment programs, literacy intervention, and educational opportunities for Alabama elementary and middle school students; Workshops Inc., an organization that works with the disabled to help them prepare for and find employment; First Light – A Center for Homeless Women and Children that is located in downtown Birmingham; and The Exceptional Foundation, which serves mentally and physically challenged individuals with special needs to enhance their lives through activities and provides a community for them and their families.
Before reaching out to those in need, the teachers had begun their day together at OLS with lunch and an inspirational prayer service. The day was not only special for those they encountered, but also for the teachers who enjoyed living out their Christian faith.
Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School fosters the religious, academic, and social development of every child, recognizing that knowledge enlightened by faith and realized through service is at the heart of Catholic education.
