Weight LossThere are many health benefits to losing weight. You will feel better, gain self-confidence, and finally fit into that bathing suit and look good doing it! Not to mention that you will be doing your body a huge favor by eliminating the sodas, chips, and chocolate (well, maybe not all of the chocolate) from your diet. But losing weight is not easy. It takes commitment, perseverance, accountability, and desire. It also takes time.


Before you begin the journey to a better body you must first have realistic expectations. Fad diets do not work. The only diet that works is one that includes a balanced meal plan and daily exercise. To lose weight, you must use up more calories than you take in. Since one pound equals 3,500 calories, you need to reduce your caloric intake by 500—1000 calories per day to lose about 1 to 2 pounds per week. Once you’ve achieed a healthy weight, by relying on healthful eating and physical activity most days of the week (about 60—90 minutes, moderate intensity), you are more likely to be successful at keeping the weight off over the long term.

The physicians at Henderson & Walton want to help you reach your weight loss goals. We have devised a plan that uses medication in conjunction with individualized counseling on diet, exercise, and behavior modification to not only facilitate weight loss but also to help you in making a lifestyle change. Participants work with our registered dietician and certified diabetes educator, Meredith Black. If you are interested in enrolling in our program you must be a patient of Henderson & Walton. All of our physicians are taking new patients. At the time of your physician visit, obtain a weight loss questionnaire so we can determine your eligibility to enroll in the program. If there are no medical indications that prohibit you from participating, then we will schedule you for lab testing.
