The Harmonics, a nationally acclaimed acapella group from Uganda, will be in Birmingham July 8 to perform a free concert at the Lutheran Church of Vestavia Hills. Expect to be inspired by this group as they sing mostly Christian music in African and American styles. The Harmonics began performing together in high school and have been an established group since 2012. Since February, they have been touring in the United States to raise funds for the non-profit ministry, Acts of Love Uganda, which helps families in Uganda start businesses to have an income to support their families. Katogo Slum in Gaba is one of the places the ministry helps. Every rainy season the slum floods and people either sleep sitting up to keep from drowning or move to higher ground until the flood waters recede. The love offering from the tour, including the Birmingham concert, will go to purchase land near Lugazi to create a self-sustaining, safer community for these families to live. Learn more about the ministry at www.actsofloveuganda.org. †
