Henderson & Walton Women’s Center (HWWC) is joining forces with Bundles of Hope Diaper Bank to meet an often overlooked need in our community- diaper assistance. HWWC is sponsoring the Second Annual Stuff the Bus Diaper Drive, September 9-18. “We are thrilled to have Henderson and Walton Women’s Center as our event sponsor for the second year in a row. Their continued generosity proves just how committed they are to our community’s health and well-being,” said Nancy Owen, Director of Bundles of Hope Diaper Bank, Birmingham’s first diaper bank, which currently distributes about 20,000 diapers each month to local families.
Bundles of Hope got its start after a group of ladies from Owen’s church gave a baby shower for a single mother in Woodlawn. Owen recalls, “We learned the facts about diaper need; 1 in 3 families nationwide struggle to provide an adequate supply of diapers for their babies; there is no government assistance for families needing diapers; and daycare centers require at least a day’s worth of disposable diapers for children to be left in their care.” Bundles of Hope distributed 2,300 diapers at its first distribution in December of 2014. Today the non-profit member of the National Diaper Bank Network distributes about 20,000 diapers a month in our community through food pantries and women’s centers. All of the diapers come from diaper drives and donations.
Bundles of Hope’s first Stuff the Bus event last year brought in 117,000 diapers! This year’s goal is 125,000! The staff at Henderson & Walton Women’s Center hopes you will join us in meeting this very important family need in our community. Learn more at www.bundlesdiaperbank.org.
