Hunter Wright
Still Waters Counseling Intern Hunter Wright expects to graduate from Colorado Christian University in the fall of 2027 with a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Still Waters Counseling Intern Hunter Wright is joining the team this semester as he pursues his Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Colorado Christian University. Wright has always been passionate about people. After graduating from Auburn University, “I worked full-time for Young Life, a youth outreach ministry, overseeing their equine department and college summer staff at one of their facilities in Colorado,” he shares. When he moved back to Birmingham in 2006, he began working in commercial construction management, “so my shift into the counseling field is a big one. My time in youth outreach, experiences in men’s group work, and my personal story led me to begin my pursuit of a degree in counseling a few years ago,” he explains.

What drew him to pursue an internship with Still Waters? “During the internship phase of my education, I knew I wanted to be in a counseling practice that offered private counseling while also creating opportunities to serve people in the community who may not otherwise seek help in a traditional counseling office. Still Waters’ commitment to serving both clients and the community is what drew me to them.” This fall, Wright will provide private counseling services under the supervision of a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor with Still Waters. “I will be holding individual counseling sessions, co-leading group sessions, and working in the community at several sites that Still Waters has partnered with, all while continuing to learn through supervision,” Wright says. During his internship, Wright hopes to learn aspects of counseling that cannot be taught in the classroom. “I hope to gain a deeper understanding of what it takes to be more than just a competent counselor, but to become an excellent one.” His faith impacts how he will interact with clients. “We all struggle with different things yet deserve to be viewed as image-bearers of our Heavenly Father. I want my clinical presence to reflect someone who truly sees each individual, free of judgment and full of understanding and care.” Wright’s clinical passions include depression, trauma-focused care, anxiety, men’s issues, and working with youth.
