Special Feature
Across the United States, women ages 18-54, battle with bouts of depression, anxiety and other mental health diagnoses at an alarming rate. According to the Alabama Department of Public Health, mental health and substance abuse are the second greatest health concerns in the state. Nearly one in five U.S. adults have been diagnosed with a mental illness. Nearly 50% of all people diagnosed with depression are also diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, which is now the most common mental illness in the U.S. Women experience depression at roughly twice the rate of men. Not surprisingly, the prevalence rate of anxiety is also greater for women.
Dr. Jana Lovelace, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in North Ala., and Jeannie Lynch, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Decatur, Ala., partnered to form No Limits Women’s Conferences, LLC, in order to facilitate a conversation about the relationship between mental health and spirituality. In order to do this, the struggles of not only getting by day to day, but also the more serious difficulty of mental health and how it is related to spirituality, must be brought to light. The mission of the ministry is to empower women, through the love of Jesus, to live their lives with no limits – no longer allowing difficulties like depression, anxiety, everyday struggles, or the past to limit them. With Jesus, there are truly no limits! The inaugural retreat will be held October 18-20, 2019 at Shocco Springs, Ala., near Talladega.
