Greek Festival

greek festivalBegun in 1972 by the Ladies Philoptochos Society, this yearly event has blossomed into one of the premier cultural events in the Southeast. The Holy Trinity-Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral Greek Food Festival is now the focal point for thousands people from Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, and Georgia who for three days experience the Greeks’ legendary zest for life. This year’s festival runs September 15-17, 10:30am – 10pm. Admission is free. Come and enjoy authentic Greek cuisine, Mediterranean and Orthodox Christian souvenirs in the gift shop, live Greek music and dancing. You can also tour the historic church from 5-9pm on Thursday and Friday and Saturday 10am-9pm. Tours begin on the hour.

Since its beginning, the Festival has provided funding each year for many local charities. In recent years, these charities have included Magic Moments, The BellCenter, The Exceptional Foundation, The Ronald McDonald House, The Fire House Shelter, and The Greater Birmingham Ministries. The Festival is located at the church, 307 19th Street South. Free parking is available in the former Liberty National parking building one block away on 20th Street (Richard Arrington Blvd) between 3rd and 4th Avenue. Learn more at www.bhamgreekfestival.com.
