St. Symeon Food and Culture Fair
April 28, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
FreeShop a one-day-only multi-ethnic food bazaar and bakery, tour the church, learn about the iconographic murals, and hear St. Symeon’s internationally acclaimed choir at this fun event for the whole family.
St. Symeon Orthodox Christian Church is located at the convergence of the Highland Park, Forest Park, and Southside neighborhoods in Birmingham, where the congregation “moved in” to a newly built church building in January 2015. Neighbors are probably familiar with the church’s iconic Russian style onion dome and the large mosaic icon overlooking Clairmont Avenue. When the church was brand new, the interior walls were bare and white. They are not bare anymore! A team of talented iconographers have now made three trips to Birmingham, each time filling a new part of the church with vivid iconographic murals in the ancient Christian tradition. There is much to see!
The St. Symeon Food and Culture Fair is the congregation’s way of welcoming neighbors to come tour the new church building, learn about the iconographic murals being painted inside, hear the internationally acclaimed choir, and shop at a one-day-only multi-ethnic food bazaar and bakery. There will be coffee, tea, and treats to enjoy at the fair plus plenty of baked goods to take home. Come to the fair on April 28, 2018, from 10-4.
