Romance, Drama & Beauty = Giselle
The Alabama Ballet brings to the stage this month what is known as the most significant Romantic ballet every created-Giselle. It’s a performance by our state’s premier classical ballet company you don’t want to miss!
The ballet tells the story of an innocent girl who is misled into believing the words of a charming admirer. She dies a maid with a broken heart and joins the spirits of other maidens who are condemned to exist in the darkness of the forest. The ballet was created more than 100 years ago and is made up of two acts. According to artistic director Tracey Alvey, Giselle “is what you expect to see when you come to the ballet… It is a very touching love story about betrayal, love, trust, and rejection.” Alvey recommends Giselle to both first-time viewers and seasoned attendees of the ballet. “I think this is a wonderful production to come and see because it’s not a long production, it’s very dramatic, it’s beautiful, and the sets are stunning.” The production, including intermission, is a total of two hours. Performances of Giselle will run from February 17 through February 19 at the Leslie S. Wright Fine Arts Center at Samford University. Tickets to Giselle cost $25 to $55 and can be purchased by calling 205-322-4300. For more information on The Alabama Ballet, visit alabamaballet.org.
