Are you preparing for marriage, hoping to strengthen a relationship, caring for someone you love, or facing a difficult decision? Are you a minister who needs support yourself? Dr. Bill Brunson offers biblical wisdom and practical support at Still Waters Counseling and Education Center.
four granddaughters. He served as senior pastor at Vestavia Hills Methodist Church for 14 years before assuming his role as
pastoral counselor with Still Waters.
A licensed minister with more than 35 years of experience, Brunson has served as pastor of First Methodist Church of Trussville and senior pastor of Vestavia Hills Methodist Church. He also served as a Methodist district superintendent, supporting pastors and congregations. He holds a Master of Divinity from Emory University’s Candler School of Theology and a Doctor of Ministry from Wesley Theological Seminary. Through decades of ministry, Brunson has walked alongside people through some of life’s hardest seasons. He understands how grief, uncertainty, and changing responsibilities can affect relationships, faith, and everyday life. “I have stood with people at baptisms and weddings and then in hospital rooms and gravesites,” he shares. Those experiences strengthen his understanding that people need compassion and care throughout life.
“I’ve always felt honored that I get to be a person that stands with people, sits with people, talks with people, and reminds them that God is with them.” Brunson offers biblical and pastoral counseling for adults and couples, grounded in his deep knowledge of and love for Scripture. Together, he and his clients explore questions such as: How do we grow? How do we change? How do we adjust? How do we go where God is wanting to take us? His additional training includes certification as a Maxwell Certified Coach, DISC Consultant, Positive Leader, and SYMBIS (Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts) facilitator.
For engaged couples, pastoral counseling offers an opportunity to build a strong foundation for marriage, learning to navigate differences and face life’s challenges together. Married couples can seek support in strengthening their connection and addressing concerns that create conflict or distance. Caregivers, people experiencing grief, and those navigating transitions may find space to talk honestly about changing responsibilities, loss, faith, and purpose. Brunson is also the author of Help and Hope: Devotions for a Caregiver by a Caregiver.
Brunson has a particular interest in supporting ministers: “To be able to talk with pastors, to be a listening ear for pastors and help them as they carry the weight of their congregation.” His experience as a pastor and superintendent informs his understanding of ministry’s personal, relational, and spiritual demands.
Brunson meets with clients at Still Waters’ Mountain Brook office and by video throughout Alabama. Sliding-scale fees are based on household income. To learn more or request an appointment with Dr. Bill Brunson, visit mystillwaters.org, email [email protected], or call 205-825-1423. †
