March 21 was declared by Congress as National Rosie the Riveter Day, honoring working women of World War II. On March 21 this year, Brookdale University Park held a ribbon-cutting for a Rosie the Riveter Memorial Rose Garden, which includes three of the newly created and patented Rosie the Riveter Rose bushes. Brookdale is home to Dr. Fran Carter, who was herself a Rosie and is founder of the American Rosie the Riveter Association www.rosietheriveter.net, a national non-profit organization for Rosies and their descendants that has members in all 50 states.
