Zion Hill Baptist Church in Birmingham is celebrating the 40th Pastoral Anniversary of Pastor Anthony Nabors and his wife, First Lady JoAnn. To commemorate this milestone, an Anniversary Banquet will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Woodrow Hall at 7 p.m. The celebration will continue Sunday, October 19, 2025, for the official Anniversary Program at Zion Hill Baptist beginning at 3 p.m. The theme for this celebration is “Four Decades of Dedication.”
Pastor Nabors was installed as Pastor of Zion Hill Baptist Church on October 20, 1985. Over the past four decades, he and First Lady JoAnn have faithfully served the congregation and the greater Birmingham community with unwavering dedication, spiritual leadership, and a transformative vision.
Highlights of their accomplishments include:
- Significant growth in church membership
- Ordination of ten deacons and four ministers
- Establishment of a new Sunday School class
- Formation of the Youth Choir, Young Adult Ministry, Youth Advisors’ Committee, Praise Team, Praise Dancers, and Mimes Ministry
- Modernization of church office equipment, computer and telephone systems, and interior renovations
- Acquisition of three surrounding lots and the church’s first van
- Completion of a new church building
As Pastor Nabors looks back over the past 40 years, he says, “God has moved through Zion Hill with a mighty hand. He has poured out spiritual blessings and allowed us to prosper in His divine way. Through the years, the road has not always been easy, there have been trials, heartaches, and seasons of sorrow. Yet through it all, God has been faithful.” Pastor Nabors and First Lady JoAnn have built a legacy of faith, service, and community empowerment that continues to uplift lives and inspire future generations. Their leadership has strengthened the spiritual and social fabric of Birmingham. †
