Kingdom Kids Impacts the World
Now, in its tenth year, a local church event has raised nearly half a million dollars for missions!
The first Kingdom Kids Consignment Sale was held at Gardendale Mt. Vernon United Methodist in the spring of 2008 and had around 100 sellers. Today, each sale boasts over 400 sellers and is hosted by more than 200 volunteers. The next bi-annual sale will be Wednesday, February 22 through Saturday February 25. The sale offers gently-used clothing, shoes, toys, games, electronics, furniture, baby items, costumes, pageant dresses, and much more.
Total sales raised over the first nine years reached $1.38 million. Of those sales, 30 percent went directly toward local, national, and international missions. “We have been able to send and support over 300 individuals through the dollars raised from this sale, and we have carried the love of Christ and the Gospel message locally and around the world,” explains Jim Jeffreys, Director of Missions at Gardendale Mt. Vernon. Kingdom Kids profits have assisted in paying for 15 international mission trips, including trips to Kenya, Togo, Peru, Mexico, Honduras, Brazil and Guatemala. Profits have also paid for four youth mission trips, including trips to New Orleans and North Carolina. The sale has also made possible nine Royal Family Kids Camps, a yearly summer camp program for Birmingham area foster children. Unsold clothing has also been donated to local school children, North Jefferson Women’s Center, Hannah Home, The Lovelady Center and King’s Ranch.
