Latest Cancer-Fighting Technology at St. Vincent’s East
Birmingham’s St. Vincent’s East Cancer Treatment Center recently celebrated the installation of the new Varian TrueBeamTM Radiotherapy System, which is the latest cancer-fighting technology available. This highly advanced cancer treatment tool delivers more precise radiation to cancerous tumors than traditional radiotherapy. With advances in digital imaging during pre-treatment, the tool is able to map a highly accurate picture of the shape, volume and depth of a tumor in order to tailor radiation with extreme accuracy. This precision greatly reduces the amount of radiation exposure to the surrounding, healthy tissue. “We are proud to offer the latest in cancer-fight technology at St. Vincent’s East,” said Andrew Gnann, President and COO of St. Vincent’s East. “Adding the TrueBeamTM to our arsenal of diagnostic and treatment tools, we are able to further enhance our multidisciplinary approach to treating our cancer patients.” St. Vincent’s East Cancer Treatment Center is committed to providing a body, mind, and spirit approach when battling cancer. With high-tech treatments and a compassionate medical staff, patients can expect a level of care that is uniquely St. Vincent’s. The Cancer Program is accredited by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons and the Joint Commission. Learn more at www.stvhs.com. †
