The Hoover Met Complex (HMC) is now the training home of Birmingham’s first and only locally owned and operated professional soccer franchise, Birmingham Legion FC. “In choosing HMC as our 2020 Training Facility, we wanted a high-level complex that has both grass and turf training fields along with excellent locker room amenities. HMC is a great fit for Legion FC and we are excited about 2020,”explains Jay Heaps, Legion FC President and General Manager. The club is utilizing HMC for both training and recovery, five to six days a week. Legion FC is also working with both the City of Hoover and Hoover Soccer Club to plan and prepare youth soccer clinics to take place at the Hoover Met Complex.
“We are excited to have Birmingham Legion using our facility for multiple purposes,” says Hoover Mayor Frank Brocato. “Professional sports organizations have found the HMC very inviting, offering world class fields, and I am certain the club will have not only a wonderful playing experience, but even more so, I think they will enjoy the hospitality that Hoover has gained such a wonderful reputation for providing. We are excited that teams competing at the professional level continue to find their way to Hoover, Ala.
Birmingham Legion FC launched in 2018 as an expansion member of the USL Championship. In their first season, they made it to the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals of the USL Championship playoffs. The club plays its home matches at BBVA Field, on the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s campus.
