Forge Breast Cancer Survivor Center Gardening Class Presents: Composting
October 23, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
$5Composting is nature’s way of recycling with numerous benefits: it enriches soil, helps retain moisture and suppresses plant diseases and pests; reduces the need for chemical fertilizers; reduces methane emissions from landfills; and lowers your carbon footprint. As composting can build a foundation for soil health, we will also discuss how to build a foundation for survivor health. You will also make a compost bin to take home! Come and learn all about the benefits of composting, micro and macronutrients and safe lifting techniques to use with your new compost bin. To reserve your place, we request a $5 reservation fee. Scholarships are available; for more information please contact Forge at 205-838-6159. Hosted by Forge Breast Cancer Survivor Center, Alabama Cooperative Extension System, and Birmingham Botanical Gardens; Forge’s monthly classes are for anyone who has ever been diagnosed with breast cancer, as well as their loved ones and the healthcare professionals that serve them.
