Michael Adler, Worship Pastor at Shades Mountain Baptist Church for the last 22 years, announced his retirement beginning Sunday, March 5.
Adler came to Shades Mountain Baptist from Castle Hills Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas where he’d served for nine years. He served at Bell Shoals Baptist Church in Brandon, Fla. prior to that. Since joining the staff at Shades Mountain Baptist, he’s led the church through numerous seasons of worship and arts. He helped lead the church through continued growth, but he brought more modern sensibilities to the worship culture. He also built a production and creative arts team around him, adding team members skilled in audio, video, lighting, design, and digital media. Adler’s heart throughout his ministry has been to steward a multi-generational approach to worship, an approach that’s proven relatable and unifying.
On March 5, Adler and his wife Linda will be honored for their faithful service. “We requested that our final day be led by those whom we have invested in over the years,” Adler says, adding, “and so on that Sunday morning, worship will be led by Bobby Smith, Chuck Hooten, Logan Creasy, Preston Lovinggood, Paxton Brittle, Jacob Adler, and Abbey Plant.” The Shades Mountain Baptist Church family will pray over and commission the Adlers into the next chapter of their life during the 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services. Following the 10:30 a.m. service, there will be a reception from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. where church members and others blessed by the Adlers during their ministry season at Shades Mountain Baptist will have the opportunity to speak with them during the churchwide reception. †
