DESCRIPTION:10am Silent Auction\, 11:30am Lunch at The Club benefitting Oak Mountain Mission Ministries\, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides food\, clothing\, furniture\, and financial assistance to those in need in Shelby County and the Greater Birmingham area. Individuals are referred to the Mission from domestic violence and homeless shelters\, faith support churches\, and social service agencies. Everything is given to screened\, qualified clients at no charge. Founded in 2001\, the need for assistance has grown each year and in 2017\, Oak Mountain Mission had 6\,120 interactions with families for assistance. The Harvest of Hope luncheon keynote speaker will be Roddy Cooper who\, for the first time\nat the event\, will share the inspirational story behind why the Mission was founded.  Roddy\, who serves as Director of Oak Mountain Mission Ministries\, began the Mission from his basement.  Today\, the Mission serves families more than 6\,000 times each year from its 10\,000 square foot facility in Pelham.  Also\, during the luncheon one of those families will share how their life has been changed by the generous support of the Mission. “Because of Roddy’s vision\, thousands of families have been given hope and witness God’s love through the compassionate support offered by Oak Mountain Mission\,” noted Tricia Parks\, Chairperson of Harvest of Hope. “Proceeds from Harvest of Hope are essential to continuing that vision.” To make reservations or sponsor a table call 205-685-5757 or visit\nwww.oakmtnmissions.com.

That’s why this September\, baby boomers\, Medicare beneficiaries\, their families and caregivers in the Birmingham area are invited to participate in an educational event\, as part of National Medicare Education Week (Sept. 15-21). This annual celebration is designed to prepare people with the knowledge they need to make confident\, informed decisions about their Medicare coverage. \nDuring the event\, local UnitedHealthcare representatives will address attendees’ top questions. Medicare experts will review the basics of Medicare\, when and how to enroll and common misconceptions. They will also be available to speak one-on-one with attendees.
