SUMMARY:“Alvin Vogtle Escapes”
DESCRIPTION:“Alvin Vogtle Escapes” is the newest one-man play commissioned by Vulcan Park and Museum. Written and directed by Lee Shackleford\, the one-act drama highlights the adventurous life of Birmingham resident\, Alvin Vogtle\, whose story influenced the 1963 film “The Great Escape” starring Steve McQueen. During World War II\, Vogtle attempted to escape German POW camps four times before succeeding on his fifth attempt in 1945. After the war\, Vogtle returned to Birmingham and worked as an attorney\, and\, in 1970\, became the CEO of Southern Company. During his tenure as CEO\, he made several tough decisions that resulted in the survival of the company during the energy crisis and its continued success today. This program is brought to you with generous support from the Alabama Power Foundation\, the Alabama State Council on the Arts\, Balch Bingham\, and Southern Nuclear.

SUMMARY:ReThink Conference
DESCRIPTION:An outspoken atheist for much of his life\, cold case detective J. Warner Wallace was familiar with two types of Christians as a young adult: fellow cops who had an evidential approach to their work but had no idea evidentially why Christianity was true\, and the apologetic criminals he hauled off to jail. He wanted nothing to do with faith until age 35\, when he decided to put his detective skills to work on the New Testament accounts of the life of Christ. Now a Christian apologist\, blogger and best-selling author\, Wallace will speak at the ReThink Apologetics Student Conference.

SUMMARY:A Talk with Frank Stitt & Friends
DESCRIPTION:Birmingham was recently listed on Zagat’s prestigious rankings of the “26 Hottest Food Cities of 2016.” The backbone of the culinary industry in Birmingham that supports that ranking is James Beard award winner Chef Frank Stitt\, among many other culinary talents in the area. Many of those chefs\, including Stitt\, call Five Points South home to their well-recognized culinary establishments. Join Chef Stitt\, owner and executive chef of Highlands Bar & Grill\, Chez Fon Fon\, and Bottega\, and friends George Reis (Ocean and 5 Point Public House & Oyster Bar)\, Jerry Hartley (the J. Clyde)\, and Harinam Khalsa (Golden Temple Natural Grocery and Café) on this special evening to hear their intriguing stories: how obstacles became realities\, why they chose Five Points South\, and why this neighborhood thrives as a hub of all things “foodie” in the Birmingham area. Don’t miss this fun night with Birmingham’s hottest culinary gurus.
