DESCRIPTION:SAVE THE DATE!! \nOur 2nd Annual God is Bigger 2019 Bass Fishing Tournament will be held on Logan Martin Lake\, September 7th\, 2019 at Lakeside Park-Cropwell\, AL.  We moved it from Lakeside Landing because we barely squeezed everyone in there last year and are expecting more fishermen this year!! \nOur tournament last year was a huge success!  We had 61 boats register to fish and approximately 150 people in attendance.  From the merchandise donated\, we gave away 52 draw prizes to raise additional funds for our charity in our draw prize drawing. \nThis year we have increased our prize money to $5\,030 to be given away to thirteen winning places!  We will provide Jack’s sausage biscuits in the morning and lunch Landmark BBQ.  We have been qualified for Nitro and Triton Tournament Rewards and AmFirst Cash Back.  Dunkin Donuts will be on site to provide you with free refreshments!!  We are working diligently to acquire some awesome draw prizes to be given away in our draw prize drawing.  Each paid angler will receive one free draw prize ticket and can purchase additional tickets for $5.00 or 5 for $20.00.  YOU MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN! DESCRIPTION:The Five Points Alliance will host its 3rd annual Taste of Five Points event on Sunday\, Sept 8 from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. at Brother Bryan Park in the heart of Five Points South. The event will bring together residents and visitors in a celebration of food and culture that will showcase the revitalization of the Five Points neighborhood. More than two dozen of Five Points’ favorite restaurants will be serving bite sized (and all you can eat) samplings for attendees to enjoy along with a variety of refreshments. \nIn addition to great food and drink\, the Five Points Storyteller competition will be performing and entertaining. SUMMARY:Baby Steps Memorial 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run
DESCRIPTION:The 11th annual run is an event that allows grieving families and their friends to come together to remember their loved ones in a supportive\, caring environment. It will be held at Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park. All proceeds for this event benefit The Amelia Center at Children’s of Alabama. \nRegistration for individuals and teams is available online for $25 for the timed 5K or $20 for the 1-mile fun run at https://runsignup.com/Race/AL/McCalla/babystepsal. The fees increase for in-person registration the day of the race to $30 for the timed 5K or $25 for the 1-mile fun run. Children age 5 and under “race” free with the paid registration of a parent.  Individual same day registration and packet pick up is at 7 a.m.\, followed by the start of the 5K and 1-mile fun run at 8 a.m. \nAll participants registering before Sept. 1 are guaranteed free admission into the park and a race shirt and bag. Vernon United Methodist (GMV) during consignment sale hours\, Wednesday\, September 18 through Saturday\, September 21. As part of the now city-wide 5th Annual Stuff the Bus Diaper Drive\, GMV is excited to be the first collection site in the northern part of Jefferson County. Bundles of Hope is a local nonprofit that provides diapers to families to ease the struggle of affording diapers. They currently distribute over 35\,000 diapers a month throughout Jefferson\, Shelby\, and Walker counties.  Lindsay Gray\, Executive Director of Bundles of Hope\, explains\, “There is currently no government assistance that covers diapers.  There is a lack of a sufficient supply of diapers to keep babies clean and healthy.”  All sizes are welcome\, but the biggest need is diapers sized 5\, 6 and Pull-ups.  Bundles of Hope also accepts outgrown and open packs of diapers. The stuff the bus campaign kicks off on Wednesday\, September 18 at 8:00 AM. “Our goal is for the consignment sale sellers\, shoppers\, and the Northern Jefferson communities to help us fill a bus full of diapers for needy families\,” said Jim Jeffreys\, Director of Missions & Outreach at GMV.  Volunteers will be onsite to collect packs of diapers.  “We will be collecting packs of diapers and monetary donations to be used to purchase even more diapers.” The first 100 donors of a pack of diapers will receive a coupon for $5.00 off a minimum purchase of $5.00 during Saturday shopping hours between 7:00 AM and Noon when many items are discounted 50% off.

DESCRIPTION:The Cathedral Choir\, under the leadership of Frederick Teardo\, Director of Music and Organist\, and Charles Kennedy\, Associate Director of Music and Organist\, sings monthly Choral Evensong services throughout the program year. The service of Choral Evensong uses the Order for Evening Prayer\, taken from the 1662 edition of the Book of Common Prayer. Each service includes an Introit\, the Canticles\, and an Anthem\, and is framed by hymns sung at the opening and close of the service. The Canticles sung are the Magnificat (Song of Mary) and Nunc Dimittis (Song of Simeon). In addition to two lessons read from the Bible\, the clergy officiant gives a brief sermon reflecting on the readings of the day.

SUMMARY:Inaugural Recital: Paolo Bordignon\, harpsichord
DESCRIPTION:The 2019-2020 Cathedral Concert Series presents Paolo Bordignon in concert\, to inaugurate the Cathedral’s newly-acquired harpsichord. \nAn acclaimed harpsichordist\, organist\, and conductor\, Paolo Bordignon is harpsichordist of the New York Philharmonic\, as well as interim Organist and Choirmaster at St. Bartholomew’s Church in New York. As a soloist and chamber musician\, he has performed internationally with various ensembles including the New York Philharmonic\, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra\, American Symphony Orchestra\, and the English Chamber Orchestra\, and collaborated with Sir James Galway\, Itzhak Perlman\, David Robertson\, Reinhard Goebel\, Paul Hillier\, Bobby McFerrin\, Midori\, Renée Fleming\, and Wynton Marsalis. He has made numerous musical festival appearances across the globe\, recorded with seven commercial labels\, and has been featured on multiple national and international television and radio broadcasts. The Cathedral Church of the Advent is pleased to have Dr. Bordignon perform the inaugural recital for its newly acquired harpsichord. The program will include works by Johann Sebastian Bach\, Gaspard Le Roux\, Domenico Scarlatti\, and Antonio Soler.
