SUMMARY:Observance of Week of Prayer for North American Missions
DESCRIPTION:National WMU will host an observance of the Week of Prayer for North American Missions at its headquarters in Birmingham on Thursday\, March 7. \nThe Week of Prayer is observed annually by Southern Baptist churches as a time to pray for missionaries\, needs of specific ministries\, and family needs. It is a time to take action in accordance with the Bible. The theme for this year’s Week of Prayer is Sending Hope. \n“We are sending hope to college students struggling to find truth\,” said Sandy Wisdom-Martin\, executive director-treasurer of national WMU. “We are sending hope to internationals who find themselves far from home. We are sending hope to abused women and children. We are sending hope to parents estranged from children. We are sending hope to the hungry\, the lonely\, and the outcast. We are sending hope to anyone lost without Christ.” \nKen Weathersby\, vice president for Convention Advancement for the Southern Baptist Convention\, will be the keynote speaker. Weathersby and his team work with ethnic minority churches and other affinity groups to better understand their perspectives. The service will also include a time of prayer for needs of North American missionaries and opportunities to learn how to become more involved in praying\, giving and going. \nBeginning at 9:00 a.m.\, enjoy light refreshments and see Annie Armstrong’s bed and armoire and a handwritten letter from Lottie Moon to Annie Armstrong on display prior to the Week of Prayer service at 10:00–11:00 a.m. From 11:15 a.m.–12:00\, an interactive refugee simulation will also be offered. It is designed to help encourage a greater understanding of the plight of refugees\, learn what the Bible teaches about our response to the global refugee crisis and explore ways to actively make a difference for Christ. \nNo registration is required.
