Gone For Good will be on-site from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. to recycle them for free for you at the Celebrate the Family Expo on May 8\, 2021! They will also shred for free your unwanted documents. As you recycle you will also be helping to support United Ability\, formerly UCP of Greater Birmingham. Gone For Good accepts paper\, file folders\, CDs\, paperclips\, binder clips\, and staples. For electronics\, Gone For Good generally accepts computer-related items – hard drives\, flat-screen monitors\, keyboards/mice\, printers\, etc. If it’s used in a home office\, it will be accepted. Items NOT accepted include: Tubular/Projection monitors or televisions; medical equipment/waste\, including dental molds; kitchen/household appliances; medication/pill bottles; computer hard drives must be documented by a GFG staff member. DESCRIPTION:The 7th annual Glow on the Green will be held on Friday\, April 30th at Highland Park Golf Course. This one-of-a-kind event features 18 holes of golf. 9 holes are played during the afternoon\, with a break for dinner and fun\, and 9 holes are played as the sun sets over Birmingham. \nFor 47 years\, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Birmingham has seen first-hand the impact that a positive role model can have on Birmingham youth. Research has shown that youth who have a caring mentor are less likely to use drugs\, less likely to skip school\, and more likely to attend college.  This year\, Big Brothers Big Sisters’ goal is to serve 1\,300 children in our community. DESCRIPTION:Camp Journey is a partnership between the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office\, Calera Police Department\, Montevallo Police Department\, Shelby County School and COMPACT 2020. \nThe mission of Camp Journey is to: \n\nDevelop leadership\, values\, and knowledge in each camper through a highly structured educational and adventurous camp experience.\nProvide training and messages centered on values and traits\, including integrity\, character\, courage\, grit\, discipline\, and teamwork.\nEducate students on issues they will face through adolescence and equip them with skills to navigate these challenges.\nImmerse students in an exciting Junior Citizens Police/Sheriff’s Academy\, allowing them to see and experience first-hand what School Resource Officers and Law Enforcement Officers do.\nHave fun and forge strong relationships between and the students and their School Resource Officers throughout the week that will carry forth throughout their academic careers and beyond.\n\nCamp Journey is scheduled for rising 6th grade students and will be hosted at Oak Mountain Elementary School June 14-18\, Chelsea Middle School July 19-23\, and Montevallo High School June 21-25 from 8am-4pm each day. It will be staffed by School Resource Officers from various schools around Shelby County and Compact 2020. The camp is free of charge\, and the only requirement is that the child be dropped off and picked up on time. Slots for the camp are limited. The last day to register is April 23\, 2021.
