DESCRIPTION:John Carroll Catholic High School will be hosting a Community Prayer Vigil for Peace and Racial Justice on Thursday\, June 25th at 7:30 p.m. at Pat Sullivan Field on the John Carroll Campus. A joint effort by the John Carroll Office of Campus Ministry\, the John Carroll Heritage Panel\, and the John Carroll Student Government Association\, the event is an opportunity for people to come together and join voices in prayer as our community works to move forward in peace and a greater understanding of one another. “Social justice has long been a pillar of the work that we undertake with our students at JCCHS. Catholic social justice teaches us that all people are made in the image and likeness of God and so possess an equal and inalienable worth. We are proud that our students have sought to make this event happen and we support them in their desire to continue to grow and learn through these challenging times. Prayer is concrete action for the sake of our community. Our words will not return to us empty but will prepare our hearts to do God’s will in our world.” Abby King\, Director (JCCHS Campus Ministry) \nTo allow for social distancing\, the prayer vigil is being held at Pat Sullivan Field on the campus of John Carroll and the gates will be open at 7 p.m. Additionally\, we encourage all those attending to wear a mask for your protection and the protection of others in attendance. For those unable to join us in person\, you can participate by praying The Divine Mercy Chaplet from home\, starting at 7:30 p.m. Participants praying from home can visit the John Carroll website for the instructions on how to use The Chaplet. SUMMARY:Choral Evensong for Ascension Day
DESCRIPTION:The Cathedral Choir sings the traditional Anglican service of sung Evening Prayer at the Cathedral Church of the Advent in celebration of the Feast of the Ascension\, a Holy Day observed each year in commemoration of Christ’s Ascension into heaven. This feast day occurs on the 40th day of Easter season. \nThe Cathedral Choir\, under the leadership of Frederick Teardo\, Director of Music and Organist\, and Charles Kennedy\, Associate Director of Music and Organist\, sings monthly Choral Evensong services throughout the program year. The service of Choral Evensong uses the Order for Evening Prayer\, taken from the 1662 edition of the Book of Common Prayer. Each service includes an Introit\, the Canticles\, and an Anthem\, and is framed by hymns sung at the opening and close of the service. The Canticles sung are the Magnificat (Song of Mary) and Nunc Dimittis (Song of Simeon). In addition to two lessons read from the Bible\, the clergy officiant gives a short homily reflecting on the readings of the day.

DESCRIPTION:The 2019-2020 Cathedral Concert Series presents the Cathedral Choir and Orchestra in a concert of scared choral works from the Baroque period. \nThe Advent Cathedral Choir and Orchestra will present an evening of sacred choral works from the Baroque period\, under the direction of our music director Frederick Teardo. This concert will feature our new harpsichord as a continuo instrument playing with the orchestra\, alongside the John and Lucille Urmey Continuo Organ. Featured on the program will be George Frideric Handel’s Coronation Anthem Zadok the Priest\, Johann Sebastian Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 3\, and his Cantata No. 140 on Wachet auf\, ruft uns die Stimme (Sleepers\, Wake!). SUMMARY:Sozo Children's 9th Annual Run for a Reason 5k
DESCRIPTION:Sozo Children’s 9th Annual Run for a Reason has changed to a virtual run this year due to the outbreak of the coronavirus. The charity 5K benefitting Sozo Children\, a Birmingham-based ministry serving the needs of vulnerable children in Uganda\, was scheduled for April 18th but will now span a period of six days\, from May 10th through the 16th. 5K Participants can register online www.sozochildren.org/runforareason now and throughout the event. Each participant will receive a swag packet including a Sozo Run for a Reason shirt regardless of whether they are running for fun or competitively. \n
