SUMMARY:Edward Parmentier\, harpsichord
DESCRIPTION:The 2019-2020 Cathedral Concert Series presents Edward Parmentier in concert on the Cathedral’s newly-acquired harpsichord. \nEdward Parmentier has performed throughout the United States\, Russia\, Western Europe\, Japan\, and Korea on harpsichord and on historic organs\, and is a frequent recitalist\, lecturer and adjudicator at symposia and festivals. His collection of recordings has won both critical and popular acclaim. Recent releases include Bach’s partitas\, French 17th-century harpsichord music\, sonatas of Scarlatti and music of the English virginalists. He appears frequently in ensemble settings as a continuo player and concerto soloist. Parmentier conducts modern instrument chamber orchestras in performances of Baroque and classical repertory. His annual summer harpsichord workshops at the University of Michigan\, where he is Professor Emeritus of Harpsichord\, attracted performers from all over the world. Learn more here. \n

Your family will not want to miss this fun\, FREE day of with live entertainment\, exhibition area\, food and product samples\, a kids zone and free recycling of electronics and free shredding provided by Gone For Good\, a program of United Ability\, formerly UCP! \nHave old electronics you need to discard after Christmas? Gone For Good will be on-site to recycle them for free for you from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.! They will also shred for free your unwanted documents. As you recycle you will also be helping to support United Ability\, formerly UCP of Greater Birmingham. Gone For Good accepts paper\, file folders\, CDs\, paperclips\, binder clips\, and staples. For electronics\, Gone For Good generally accepts computer-related items – hard drives\, flat-screen monitors\, keyboards/mice\, printers\, etc. If it’s used in a home office\, it will be accepted. Items NOT accepted include: Tubular/Projection monitors or televisions; medical equipment/waste\, including dental molds; kitchen/household appliances; medication/pill bottles; computer hard drives must be documented by a GFG staff member. Hard drives are physically shredded using an Alleghney 5HD3 machine and then recycled. \nMeet Mickey & Minnie\, Elsa and Paw Patrols’ Chase and Skye! The cast will be on hand for pictures and autographs at the Expo! and at 11am and 1pm perform a sneak peak of their upcoming Characters on Parade Performance February 21\, 2020 at Gardendale First Baptist North Campus. SUMMARY:Choral Evensong
DESCRIPTION:The Cathedral Choir\, under the leadership of Frederick Teardo\, Director of Music and Organist\, and Charles Kennedy\, Associate Director of Music and Organist\, sings monthly Choral Evensong services throughout the program year. The service of Choral Evensong uses the Order for Evening Prayer\, taken from the 1662 edition of the Book of Common Prayer. Each service includes an Introit\, the Canticles\, and an Anthem\, and is framed by hymns sung at the opening and close of the service. The Canticles sung are the Magnificat (Song of Mary) and Nunc Dimittis (Song of Simeon). In addition to two lessons read from the Bible\, a brief sermon is given reflecting on the readings of the day. Learn more here.
