DESCRIPTION:The Hartford Nationals\, Move United’s largest and longest-standing national sport championship event for athletes with a physical disability\, visual impairment\, and/or intellectual disability\, is set to return to Hoover\, Alabama\, July 12-18\, 2024. \nNow in its 67th year\, over 400 athletes with disabilities and coaches are expected to participate in this weeklong series of events including competitions\, clinics\, educational sessions\, and social opportunities. The sports contested include archery\, para powerlifting\, paratriathlon\, shooting\, swimming\, track and field\, and wheelchair tennis. \nActivities will take place at the Hoover Met Complex to include the Hoover Met Stadium and the Finley Center\, Lakeshore Foundation\, Spain Park High School\, Birmingham CrossPlex\, and Oak Mountain State Park. DESCRIPTION:Community Grief Support (CGS) is hosting the fun-est party of the summer –the 21st annual fundraiser\, “Lift Your Spirits.” This year’s theme is “Flamingling with Friends” set in a casual\, festive setting at Vestavia Country Club on Thursday\, July 18\, 6-9pm. Jann Robinson is the 2024 Lift Your Spirits Chair. Special guest\, Roy Williams\, former Birmingham News Journalist\, will share his compelling story of his brother\, Army Major Dwayne Williams’\, tragic death at the Pentagon in the 911 attacks. Janice Rogers\, WBRC Fox 6 Good Day Alabama co-host\, will be the emcee. \nGrief is hard\, but it’s okay to have fun too. Each year\, CGS hosts this fundraising event that gives permission to celebrate life – to enjoy an evening that will truly “lifts your spirits.” Featuring bedazzling silent and live auctions with must-have jewelry\, pottery\, artwork\, kids and pet packages\, exceptional entertainment\, and exciting international/domestic travel experiences\, as well as Birmingham’s Finest dining experiences\, plus more.
