DESCRIPTION:The Distinguished Young Women Program of Jefferson County is accepting applications from high school girls graduating in 2021 and residing in Jefferson County. The deadline for receiving applications is March 8\, 2020. \nThe program\, (formerly Jefferson County’s Junior Miss)\, will take place on July 17-18 2020 at Vestavia Hills High School. Interested girls may visit www.DistinguishedYW.org and click on the icon “APPLY NOW” to receive an application or they may contact Chairman Eddie Macksoud at jefferson@distinguishedYW.org or 205-907-0210. \nThere is no entry fee. Participants compete in the categories of fitness\, self expression\, interview\, scholastics\, and talent. Last year more than $13\,000 in cash-tuition scholarships. \nThe Jefferson County representative will advance to the Distinguished Young Women Program of Alabama in Montgomery\, AL where she will compete for over $40\,000 in cash-tuition scholarships and over $1\,000\,000 in college granted scholarships. The current Distinguished Young Woman of Jefferson County is Lauren Thrasher\, a senior at Hoover High School.

SUMMARY:Choral Evensong
DESCRIPTION:The Cathedral Choir\, under the leadership of Frederick Teardo\, Director of Music and Organist\, and Charles Kennedy\, Associate Director of Music and Organist\, sings monthly Choral Evensong services throughout the program year. The service of Choral Evensong uses the Order for Evening Prayer\, taken from the 1662 edition of the Book of Common Prayer. Each service includes an Introit\, the Canticles\, and an Anthem\, and is framed by hymns sung at the opening and close of the service. The Canticles sung are the Magnificat (Song of Mary) and Nunc Dimittis (Song of Simeon). In addition to two lessons read from the Bible\, a brief sermon is given reflecting on the readings of the day. Learn more here.
